The rules don't scale down. Whether you run twelve steers or two hundred, LPA wants your treatment records kept for seven years. NLIS wants every movement on the database. Your state wants a chemical use record for every spray you put out. LPA wants a biosecurity plan you've actually read.
Most of us keep it in a notebook in the ute, a spreadsheet we stopped updating in March, or in our heads. That works right up until the audit letter turns up — or a buyer asks when that heifer was last drenched, and you can't tell them.

Every treatment stores its withholding period and export slaughter interval the moment you record it. You get a countdown, not a calculation. Try to send an animal that's still inside a window and the app stops you before you've loaded the truck.

You'll actually know your herd
Look up a tag and see the lot: age, mob, breeding, every treatment it's ever had, what's due next. That's the part you'll use every day. Being audit-ready is what falls out the other end.
Every sheep and farmed goat needs an eID tag from 1 January 2027.
From that date, sheep and farmed goats must carry an accredited NLIS eID device before leaving any property, whatever their age. For a lot of small producers that's the moment record keeping stops being a personal choice and starts being electronic.
