- Do I have to be LPA accredited to use it?
- No. It's built around what LPA asks for, because that's the standard most of us are held to, but you don't need to be accredited to keep good records.
- Does it work for sheep and goats, or just cattle?
- Cattle, sheep and goats. I run cattle, so that's what's been dogfooded hardest, but the record types are the same.
- Will it work in the yards with no signal?
- Yes. Treatments, movements, sprays, feed records and rainfall all queue offline and sync when you're back in range. You'll see an honest status — synced, pending, or offline — not a fake tick.
- Does it talk to NLIS directly?
- No. It gives you the device list and an NLIS-format CSV to upload, and reminds you if a movement hasn't been marked as recorded within 48 hours. The NLIS transfer itself still happens on the NLIS database.
- What about eNVDs?
- eNVD is the official consignment document, and it stays where it is. Herd Instinct handles the record keeping either side of it — what the animal had, when, and whether it's clear to travel. The two aren't in competition.
- Is there a free version?
- No. There's one version with everything in it, and 30 days free to decide. There's more on why on the pricing page.
- Do I need a credit card to start the trial?
- Yes, at signup. Nothing is charged until day 31, and you can cancel any time before then.
- Can my partner use it too?
- Yes, at no extra cost. Household access is included — invite whoever helps with the stock.
- What happens to my records if I stop paying?
- You get walked through exporting everything before the account closes. We then archive your data for 60 days in case you change your mind, and permanently delete it after that. You'll be told before it happens.
- Can I get my data out?
- Any time, without asking. Audit pack PDF, per-module CSVs, and a full export of everything.
- Where is my data stored?
- In Australia.
- Does it tell me the withholding period for a product?
- It tracks the withholding period and export slaughter interval you record against a product, and counts the days for you. The registered product label always prevails. If the label and the app disagree, follow the label.
- Who's behind it?
- One bloke with cattle in the Northern Rivers. There's more on the about page.
- How much is it?
- $16.50 a month or $165 a year, GST included.
